Christopher Sign is an award winning journalist who joined ABC15 News as a general assignment reporter in March of 2005. With more than 10 years of reporting experience, Christopher has covered a variety of big stories, including hurricanes, deadly tornadoes, wildfires, and hostage situations.
He was ABC15's lead reporter during the search for the "Baseline Killer" and "Serial Shooter" and has received journalism awards for his coverage of those stories including the 2006 Edward R. Murrow Award for spot news and Emmy Award for Breaking News.
Born and raised near Dallas, Christopher attended the University of Alabama, playing four years under legendary football coach and former Arizona Cardinals head coach, Gene Stallings. While playing for the Crimson Tide, Christopher met his wife, Laura, an All-SEC volleyball player at Alabama. During his college years, Christopher dabbled in the acting field too, appearing several times on the television series 'Walker, Texas Ranger'. Under the guidance of Coach Gene Stallings, Christopher moved into the broadcast field.
Getting his start in Montgomery, Alabama, Christopher covered a lot of politics. From there it was on to Midland/Odessa, Texas where Christopher got his first taste of border and immigration issues along with oil & energy concerns. Then it was back to Alabama, in Birmingham where Christopher covered some of the most well known stories in that state, including the deaths of 13 coal miners killed in an underground explosion, several deadly tornadoes, and Hurricanes Charlie, Francis, & Ivan.
In his spare time, Christopher enjoys spending time with his wife. You can usually spot them at the gym or walking their small Chihuahua. |
